 ANTHELMINTIC (Worm Dose) TREATMENTS

Mohair producers are faced with a large number of anthelmintic (dose) choices when it comes to treating their goats for roundworms and tapeworms.

It is just so confusing looking at the active ingredients and different doses to make a choice.

To make it easier for producers to know which ‘active ingredient’ they are using all Anthelmintics (doses) have numbers on the container.

These numbers are circled and indicate which groups the actives contained in the dose belong to. These numbers range from 1-11

  1. Macrocyclic lactones (Ivermectin, Moxidectin, Doramectin, Abamectin)
  2. Benzimidazoles and probenzimidazoles (Albendazole, Febendazole, Triclabendazole, Oxfendazole)
  3. Imidazoles (Levamizole)
  4. Halogenated salicycanilides (Resorantel, Niclosamide, Rafoxanide, Closantel)
  5. Nitrophenols (Nitoxynil)
  6. (None)
  7. Organophosphors (Trichlorfon)
  8. Isoquinolones (Praziquantel)
  9. (None)
  10. Spironidole (Derquantel)
  11. Amino-acetonitrile (Monepantel)

Combinations of the above.

To try make it easier for Producers I have placed the numbers in the table to see in which group you can check for a dose depending on what you want to treat or check the combination list.

Resistance (poor efficacy) is commonly seen in groups 2 and 3

SEE DOSE OPTIONS in these groups attached and what individual doses treat.

Before using a particular dose it is vital that producers are familiar with:
