Tulp poisoning can be seen in times of drought as it may be the only greenery around in the veld.

Symptoms develop as soon as 6 hours of eating tulp and deaths 9-70 hours. Most susceptible are newly introduced hungry stock. Animals growing up with tulp tend to avoid it.

Pallida the yellow tulp is considered the most toxic

Tulp remains toxic even when the plant is dry. The toxicity also varies according to the area where it grows.
